In earlier post you may have noticed that I fought and fought with my wireless connection on my iPad and iPhone. No matter what I tried, I just could not keep either connected to my Belkin Netgear F5D8236 v2 wireless router. I recently bought a Cisco Linksys E1000 router and just like that, the problem is gone. Let me just go ahead and state that I did not have any wifi problems with anything other than my apple device. Netgear is great if you don’t have any apple devices but if you do, Cisco is the way to go.
Added Sn0wbreeze v2.0.2 to the iPhone page, jailbreak your iPhone with the latest firmware 4.1. Also check out zToggle, available on cydia, to toggle multitasking and wallpaper on/off on 3G.
Finally my iPhone is usable again, 4.0.x sucked on the 3G. 3Gs seemed to be fine but the 3G was literally unusable with 4.0. I was seriously considering buying a droid! I have even jailbroken 4.1 and noticed little impact on performance. Before with 4.0, there was at least a 2 second delay involved in everything you did, jailbreaking and enabling multitasking and/or wallpaper doubled that delay. Thanks apple for finally, somewhat helping us 3G users out a bit. I’m willing to bet that a measurable amount of business has been lost due to the horrible firmware performance issues, I had never considered switching phones until 4.0 was released.
To unlock multitasking, homescreen wallpaper & battery percentage on your iPhone 3G:
Update your iPhone to firmware 4.0
Run redsnow
Browse to the 4.0ipsw
Select the options you want and click next.
Perfomance: In my opinion 4.0 perfomes like crap on the 3G so I might as well have the 3GS extras anyway. Best I can tell, the device performs no slower than it did before enabling the 3GS functions.
Your iPhone does not need to be jailbroken to use iPhoneBrowser.
Install iPhoneBrowser on your windows machine. Connect your iPhone to the computer via the USB cable. Launch iPhoneBrowser…..that’s it, your connected.
ssh: connect to another machine
chmod: edit file/directory permissions
passwd: change the password
mkdir: create a directory
cd: change your current working directory
ls: listing of the current working directory
cp: make a copy of a file
mv: change the name of a file
rm: get rid of unwanted files
cmp: compare two files
wc: word, line, and character count
compress: compress a file
Jailbreak your iPhone 3G, 3Gs v3.1.2 (latest firmware as of post date).
1. Connect iPhone to PC
2. Launch BlackRa1n on PC
3. Click Make It Ra1n
4. iPhone will enter recovery mode and will be jailbroken
5. Launch BlackRa1n on your iPhone
6. Select the Repository Managers you want to install
AT&T finally unlocked some of the true mms capabilities on the iPhone today, available through a quick carrier update. Now we just need tethering officially unlocked!

On your iPhone goto:

Towards the middle of the page, click on “Mobileconfigs download >”.
Install the config file.
Restart your iPhone.
Goto Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering
To sync your iPhone/iPod on 2 different computers:
Basically your “Library Persistent ID” needs to match on both machines. To do this:
1. Backup your iTunes folders!
2. Open iTunes Music Library.xml in notepad on the machine that you are currently syncing on.
3. Copy your Library Persistent ID to a txt doc and save it.
<key>Library Persistent ID</key><string>4CD00B9FCCC59728</string>
You only need the 16 character string in red above.
4. On the 2nd machine that you want to sync with, open iTunes Music Library.xml and replace the Library Persistent ID with the one from the 1st machine.
5. Open iTunes Library.itl with a Hex editor and search for your Library Persistent ID (Hex Values), from the example above, I would search for 4CD00B9FCCC59728. Replace that string with the the one from the 1st machine.
Your done, sync up on either/both machines!
Note: If you just want Ex. ‘music from 1 machine and calendars from another’, just change the preferences in iTunes, no need for this little trick.

Firmware
Connect your iPhone/iPod to your PC via the usb cable.
Launch RedSnow and follow the instructions to jailbreak your device.
Make sure you download the correct firmware for your device.
The iPhone 3Gs is not supported by this tool, yet!
Installs Cydia and/or Icy.

In the process of replacing my screen this time around, I accidentally broke the flex cable to the home button. No worries though, I found one for around $12.00.
Second round here, seriously considering a new phone, possibly a blackberry. Like the iPhone, just having tons of bad luck with this one!
