Here are two ways to connect to your iPhone from a windows machine.
1. Putty and OpenSSH over a wireless network. Requires a jailbroken iPhone.
Install Putty on you windows machine and OpenSSH on your iPhone. On your iPhone, go to Settings, Wi-Fi, Your wireless network, and note the IP address. Launch Putty and enter the IP address, click Open, Login as root using the password alpine. Once connected, I suggest changing your password so that others can’t access your device so easily in Hot Spots and such..thats so fun!!! Use passwd to change the password.
2. iPhoneBrowser. iPhone does not need to be jailbroken.
Install iPhoneBrowser on your windows machine. Connect your iPhone to the computer via the USB cable. Launch iPhoneBrowser…..that’s it, your connected.
The 1st method is best if you need to execute cmds such as passwd, chmod, etc.. If your just browsing and moving files to and from the device then the 2nd method is easiest and best for you.
Sharing your iPhones 3G/Edge internet connection with a wireless pc is known as tethering. To do this, install iPhoneModem on your jailbroken iPhone via Cydia and the iPhoneModem application on your pc from http://www.iphonemodem.com/. Launch the application on your pc 1st, then you will see a wifi network named “iPhoneModem” on your pc and iPhone, join the wifi network on both devices and then launch the App on you iPhone. The 2 devices will sync and you will be able to surf the web on your pc via your iPhones 3G/Edge internet connection.
I dropped my iPhone, 13 inches off the ground, onto a tile floor. 13 inches, yes I measured. WOW….it hit just right I guess, shattering the glass touch pad. Good news, I guess but not really, the LCD underneath is not broke, just the glass. This will cost me around $40 instead of $200. Bought a replacement screen for $40 at http://www.pdaparts.com/.
Cycorder is a Video Recorder with sound, available for free via Cydia. Videos are saved in .mov format and are stored in the /User/Media/Videos/ directory. Cycorder records at 6-15 frames per second, depending on lighting, uses MJPEG compression and has an aspect ratio of 384×288 px, 4×3. The video below was recorded with Cycorder.
Doom for the iPhone. This release includes the shareware doom1.wad. It supports commercial wad files from Doom 1 and 2. Wad files go in /Applications/Doom.app/. If you are a Doom fan, this is a must have.
OK, I know that this has been around for a while but I though it was worth mentioning again. The buttons are somewhat hard to use due to the fact that it is a touch screen but still a great app. You have to constantly look at the buttons in order to reposition your fingers.
Want NES:
Jailbreak your iPhone
Install Cydia or Installer
Install the NES Emulator
ROMs go in /var/mobile/Media/ROMs/NES/
Cydia and Installer are packaging and repository managers like Apples App Store. Both offer some great apps that just aren’t matched in the App Store. Your iPhone must be jailbroken to install these packages. QuickPwn streamlines the process by jailbreaking the iphone and installing both tools.
